- In Russia, the entire last week of the carnival is celebrated fat and loud. This week is maslenica, during which blinis and yeast pancakes are eaten, both sweet and dry. It is a time of feasts and games, as well as dances by the fire.
- In Italy, the final days of the carnival are a festival of typical masks, costumes, parades, music, sweets and local traditions. The Italian Fat Thursday, or “giovedi grasso”, is more about eating than eating.
