Monica Vitti was born in 1931 in Rome and grew up in Sicily. As a teenager, she performed in amateur productions, later she studied at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Rome, where in 1953 she received her diploma.

Loved by the public, Monica Vitti has appeared in Michelangelo Antonioni’s “Night”, “Eclipse” and “Red Desert”. She starred in the most famous Italian comedies opposite Albert Sordi and Marcello Mastroianni. She also starred in “The Specter of Freedom” by Luis Bunuel.

Vitti has also appeared in the theater, mainly in plays by Shakespeare and Molière. She appeared for the last time in 1989 in the film “Scandalo secreto”, which she directed. She has won numerous awards, including the Golden Lion of the Venice Film Festival and the Silver Bear of the Berlin Film Festival.
