Euskaltzaindia has proposed in the plenary session held today the name of the writer Miren Agur Meabe as the next full member of the Academy. The euskaltzain Xabier Kintana will become emeritus having turned 75 last October 2021, and Meabe is a candidate to replace him.
According to the academy regulations, Meabe will be chosen as a full member of Euskaltzaindia, very Basque scholar, in case of obtaining the majority of favorable votes of the current full and emeritus members in the next plenary session, which will be held on February 25.
The proposal to be a full member of the academy must be signed by at least three full members.
Miren Agur Meabe (Lekeitio, 1962) studied Teaching and Basque Philology, and worked as a teacher and writer of textbooks for some years. Today, she writes literature for adults and young people, both in prose and poetry, and has been a contributor to Euskaltzaindia since 2006.
He has received the critics’ prize in 2001 and 2011 for his collections of poems Skin code Y Bits in hand; the Euskadi Prize for Literature three times for Cliff House (2002), A year at the lighthouse (2006) and The road (2011); and in 2021 he received the Spanish National Poetry Prize for How to store ash on the cob.
She has also translated literature, including works by the Iranian poet Forough Farrokhzad and the Rwandan poet Skolastique Mukasonga.
