The 62nd edition of the contest will have a reduced duration of one week -from January 24 to 28- due to the covid, the director of the Center for Literary Research of Casa de las Américas, Jorge Fornet, stated at a press conference.
The award will also be limited to three genders (with an endowment for each of 3,000 dollars or the equivalent in national currency): novel, poetry and historical-social essay.
The literary event will only meet in Havana, added the Cuban researcher, detailing that this responds to the health and economic circumstances that the country is going through.
The president of Casa de las Américas, Abel Prieto, highlighted the importance of the return of the Literary Prize, after its only cancellation since it was created in 1960.
The jury, which will announce its decision on the 28th, will be made up on this occasion by renowned Latin American intellectuals, such as the Argentine-Cuban poet Basilia Papastamatíu, the Cuban narrator Dazra Novak and the Ecuadorian editor Santiago Vizcaino.
The award program includes exhibitions, poetry reading, presentation of winning books in previous editions and a concert by the Cuban troubadour Diego Gutiérrez, among other activities.
Over the decades, the Casa de las Américas Literary Prize has brought together thousands of works by authors from the Latin American and Caribbean region and annually awards relevant works in various categories. (I)
