The royal family is firmly distancing itself from the toxic fallout of the allegations against Queen Elizabeth’s third son.
The accusations of sexual abuse of a minor against the prince andrew resulted in the the nobleman has been stripped of his royal and military titles. This is how he arranged Buckingham Palace, who communicated the news on the social networks of the British monarchy.
Sean Coughlan, analyst and royal correspondent for the BBC, explains that after the decision the third son of the Queen isabel II has not necessarily lost his title, although he has treatment of ‘his royal highness’ (HRH) on official business, just like it happened to Harry and Meghan. This implies that in the court case that Virginia Giuffre continues against him, he will have to defend himself as a private citizen.
As a result, Andrew’s roles will go to other members of the royal family and they will not return to the prince, regardless of the outcome of the process against him.
Among the military titles that the Duke of York no longer holds is that of Colonel of the Grenadier Guard, one of the highest-ranking infantry regiments in the British Army. Andrés had a 22-year career in the Royal Navy under which he served as a helicopter pilot during the Falklands War.
Total 10 appointments are withdrawn in this regard, but will maintain its service rank of Vice Admiral, confirmed the Palace. As a former member of the military, he was promoted in line with his peers still serving and was appointed by the Navy Vice Admiral on his 55th birthday, in 2015. The duke was due to be promoted to admiral on his 60th birthday, but asked to postpone it after retire from his public duties in 2019.
More than 150 Royal Navy and Army veterans applauded the resolution. Lieutenant Stuart Hunt, who served with the First Royal Tank Regiment, suggested the issue should have been resolved earlier. The 52-year-old added: “It’s a nasty business… I’m glad he’s not associated with the military now… Whether it’s guilty or not, has discredited the institution… He is not fit to serve in an honorary rank. He has waived that right by getting himself into this type of situation.”
Similarly, several charities have severed their ties with the duke, which he served with his royal sponsorships, including being a sponsor or member of prestigious golf clubs, schools and cultural trusts.

defense of Virginia Giuffre has stated that a monetary settlement alone would not be enough for her client, she wants to be vindicated. Giuffre, 38, filed a civil case in New York in August 2021 under the Child Victims Law, which allows survivors of childhood sexual abuse to file a case that would not otherwise have been possible, because too much time had passed.
In court documents filed as part of his testimony, Giuffre said he was the victim of sex trafficking and abuse by the late billionaire tycoon Jeffrey Epstein. She alleged that part of her abuse involved being loaned to other powerful men, including the Duke of York.
The prince’s lawyers instead argue his case should be dismissed, citing a 2009 settlement he signed with convicted sexual predator Epstein, who was found dead in his Florida prison cell in 2019. But in a 46-page ruling , Judge Lewis A. Kaplan dismissed Prince Andrew’s claim that the case against him was “legally insufficient.”
