Miguel Melfi, winner of ‘The power of love’: I did not come to take away anyone’s job in Ecuador

Music is the way that connects him with different audiences worldwide. Television, on the other hand, has been the platform that has exposed him and brought him closer to the public that currently follows him and searches on social networks. The Panamanian Miguel Melfi, who achieved recognition at the Latin American level as a result of his participation in the reality The power of love, which was the winner along with the Ecuadorian Andreina Bravo, will move to Ecuador for a month. He was summoned by Ecuavisa to be the reality show host The new star of In Touch, that seeks to choose a new presenter for the morning show among seven women.

With previous experience on television, he assures that it is not an improvised as is speculated in hundreds of comments on social networks, the 25-year-old artist is not only focused on this television experience in the country. This year he plans to release his EP titled On the moon, recording material he produced while in Turkey as part of the reality. With a repertoire loaded with lyrics that summarize and explain what he experienced during his participation in the reality show, Melfi details his next plans for this newspaper -both work and life- in which Bravo is also part of them, although they work in various national channels.

Before this next release, on digital platforms, Melfi has songs available such as The desire, Christmas is here (in which he collaborates), None (ft. Erick Lobette and Jean Model), Companion for life.

We saw him with guitar in hand in the reality and now you are about to release your first EP, but how is that artistic passion born in you?

My mother had put me with her all my life to sing karaoke and that kind of thing, because she liked it a lot, but I was more focused on sports. I had guitar lessons when I was in school, I learned the basic chords, but I left it and in the pandemic I listened to the song !What else then, by Sech and other artists and I see that the chords he uses are the same ones I knew, so I took the guitar out of the closet, I decided to revive it, I bought the strings, I start practicing the song, then I start practicing playing it and singing and that’s how I learned again with the guitar, I start watching YouTube videos, singing songs by other artists, and then I decide to make a cover with a friend I had here in Panama and he introduced me to a friend of his from the United States who knows much more about music.

I begin to learn from him, his name is Claudio Scollo and he is the producer of my first song and of Companion for life, that right now reached a million views in Youtube. So I start working with him and he likes the way I compose, because I start composing and make an agreement with him. I worked throughout 2020 locked up, I did not show anything on social networks, also for that time of pandemic I they hacked my old Instagram, but it served as an opportunity to focus for myself and not be stuck to the networks.

In 2021 I start to release them, I released three or four songs and after that the thing about The power of love and thank God the numbers are going up, thanks to the doors that are opening for me after being in The power of love, people liked my music, my romantic style and I am very happy with the acceptance my music is having.

Your simple success

Companion for life is the theme that premiered in February of last year and that since its participation in the reality gained popularity. “This is my song, so to speak, the most famous, the one that has been most widely accepted by the public. It talks about that person who is there in the good times and the bad and that no matter how much they fight, they always manage to fix the problem they had, “says Melfi.

Will your proposal have an urban base with a fusion of other genres?

You hit the nail on the head, I love being versatile, I like all genres and if in the future I could produce a bachata, a cumbia, a salsa, even a guaracha, I would like it up to that level. I like to be versatile with music because I think that’s smart when trying to reach all audiences. My genre is going to remain in the fusion between the romantic part that is the acoustic part, more ballads, more of the heart and on the other hand mixed with the urban part, the modern, the reggaeton, that if the flirtation, sometimes I like be a bit explicit in my lyrics.

Among the musical plans, he previously announced a remix about the topic Shoulder strap, by Andreína Bravo, how is this production progressing, does it already have a release date?

With regard to the musical projects with Andreína, I tell you, without shame I tell you, that sometimes you want to do things in a hurry, but everything happens when it has to happen. We want to do things well, it is better to do things calmly, we are preparing to make a very interesting little video for the public and the team Andrelfi feel quite identified and happy listening to this material. The tentative date to record the song will be these days, but to release it, Andreína and I want that when I arrive in Ecuador we have time to record the video.

We do have another song in common, together, that we both sing, but the lyrics are not finished yet and I think it is a project that we want to keep there to share with the public later. It will be more acoustic, more romantic, not so urban.

When would the EP be released?

For now, the EP has the name of On the moon, And do you know why? Because they are pure songs that I composed being inside the house of The power of love, To each one of the couples, to Andreína, I want to share the songs that I composed inside the house with people. The EP is called On the moon because when I was composing, locked up in this house, I can tell you with complete certainty that I felt as if I were on another planet because I didn’t have a telephone, I didn’t have social networks, I had no obligations, my mind and body were in one place. That’s why I gave it that name because I was in a very different place and time than I was used to composing with my guitar.

And the date, more or less I would like to release it, because it has many romantic things, I would like to share it on Valentine’s Day or maybe a little earlier. We are focused on everything that comes from music. On the moon I would have five songs, they were five romantic ones at the beginning, but right now together with my producer Lorens Music and Claudio Scollo, who is collaborating with me again, we are giving it another touch and we are mixing it with other current genres, more modern like reggaeton and afrobeats, It’s a pretty fun mix. And the EP also has little surprises, there may be collaborations there and you’ll be quite surprised.

Entry to national television

In Ecuador he has already offered a concert, he was a guest at In contact, appeared in a play at the theater and now will be in Ecuavisa, How did this job opportunity come about?

Nothing is guaranteed in this life, but I am quite happy and I am confident in my desire to do a good job when I go there. I was previously in Ecuador, thank God I was given the opportunity of the concert, I was super excited and proud to open the concert to such talented artists, in the theater I was delighted with the affection of the public. Now in In contact, there are many things that sometimes they do not realize. I was in Ecuador for a week and almost every day I went to In contact and at that time I didn’t understand it either because it was, but it could be some kind of test, to see how I flowed in the program with the other presenters and my chemistry towards the public. After that week I felt quite comfortable and I was looking for a job offer in Ecuador, not because I didn’t have them in Panama but because a large number of my audience is from Ecuador.

In addition, it is also a challenge for me, I had not worked on television for 5 years, before The power of love, nor how reality, neither as a presenter nor as a reporter, that yes in my past I had the experience of being a reporter and presenter. I was looking for something over there, to spend some time, get to know a little more, be with Andreína, to get my job and things over there, and this opportunity arose with In contact. I am super proud, happy and grateful more than anything with all the people of Ecuavisa and with God.

I know that there are many people who did not like the idea of ​​me being hired, either because there are people who say that I do not have the experience or that there are many qualified people or Ecuadorians, why would they bring a foreigner? I summarize it this way: I did not come to take away the position of anyone in Ecuador. Everything has its reason and its reason, I had experience before on television, I am not the best or the worst, but I can assure you that I will give my best in that position, in that job, as long as I have to do it to have fun and have a good time the time you are in The house of the stars. Will you be in Ecuador for a month?

It will be a month and a few more days, I wish I could stay much longer, I swear I would love to be able to stay longer to get to know all of Ecuador and do many more things, but the agenda has some other projects that are also just as exciting and important. .

With the experience you had in the theater, haven’t you analyzed the possibility of training as an actor?

I tell you, people believe that when you dedicate yourself to being a musician you only do that and I believe that 80% of artists are not only dedicated to making art, I believe that life is also about taking advantage of all opportunities, namely business to knowing how to invest, I want to start investing in certain things to make my pocket grow, as we say here in Panama. After doing theater I was addicted to the reaction of the people, yes I would love to be able to improve my acting and this is my short-term dream: to get to Netflix.

Your work in Panama

Melfi, who is an industrial engineer by profession, has been part of different productions. Between 2015 and 2016 he entered as a participant in the reality Calle 7, In Panama. While he was studying at the university, the proposal came to enter the television of his country. “After that I leave television for a year or two, then they call me to participate as a guest. I finish studying, there was no work, I focus on music and after that they call me The power of love, always and more than anything grateful for how things have turned out.
