The Olympic champion and World Cup winner ends his career just before the Olympics

the last time he competed in the World Cup was at the end of last season. The previous season was still in the lead, but it was most successful over a decade ago. In 2010 he became the Olympic champion in giant slalom and won the Crystal Ball for the World Cup, and a year earlier he was the world champion in the giant slalom.

A career full of successes, but also problems

On Thursday, he announced that he would end a successful career during the Wengen struggle. Competition in front of your own audience is the perfect moment. – I am glad that I can end my career on my favorite slope – admitted the touched 35-year-old during the conference where he announced the decision.

The Swiss emphasized that he was particularly pleased with the three or four seasons in which he was most successful. Perhaps he would have achieved even more, had it not been for the unlucky diagnosis in 2011. Then the doctors diagnosed him with a cardiac arrhythmia. For this reason, he had to undergo surgery. He also had recurring back problems and numerous injuries, incl. right knee in October 2017, which prevented him from competing throughout the season.

– From the time when I experienced a rupture of my cruciate ligament in 2017, everything started to break down – he quoted on Thursday. Bad luck didn’t want to leave him even in the last season. At the beginning of the cycle, he could not take off because he was infected with the coronavirus. Later, he tried to get back into shape. The goal was precisely in Wengen, where in 2010 he had one of his 11 victories in P¦.

Carlo Janka was one of those competitors who achieved success in almost all alpine skiing competitions. He won in giant, super-giant, combo and downhill. In the latter competition, he also has a bronze medal at the world championship.
