“Don’t Look Up” is a production with an absurdly star cast: Jennifer Lawrence and Leonardo DiCaprio play the lead roles, followed by Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Jonah Hill, Ariana Grande and Timothée Chalamet. Oscar-winning director Adam McKay wrote a screenplay that was moved by how much people don’t care about the climate catastrophe, so he used a comet as a metaphor. He himself was surprised who agreed to star in the film. Viewership results show that it reached millions of people with its message.
People spent 111 million hours watching Don’t Look Up
The film tells the story of two astronomers who discover that a giant comet is inevitably approaching the Earth and will wipe out life on the entire planet. But nobody cares about it: the US president pays more attention to the results of election polls and deals with billionaires, and the media does not take reports about the threat seriously. People prefer to make fools of scientists and make memes about them than to actually acknowledge that something must be done to save the world.
The production could be watched in selected cinemas around the world, and from December 24 it is available on The latest viewership statistics show, within a few days of its online premiere, the film reached the top of the list of the most popular English-language productions viewed globally on the platform.
Viewers spent a total of 111,030,000 hours watching comedy with DiCaprio playing a scientist in a corduroy jacket and a plaid shirt. For comparison – the second-placed film “Unforgivable” starring Sandra Bullock, which also made its debut last week, was watched for “only” 26,600,000 hours. The difference is significant, especially since the most popular series at the same time, the second season of “The Witcher”, was watched for 168,460,000 hours – the series has been at the top of the list for the second week now.
Interestingly, there is still only a slightly less star-studded “Red Note” on the list – Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson played there. Production on the platform has been available for seven weeks and this is how long it takes up Netflix’s global TOP10 list for English-language films. A nice accent is also the fact that the Polish Christmas comedy has been on the list of the 10 most popular non-English-language productions for three weeks
