Cucumbers are undoubtedly one of the most versatile products in the kitchen. We can put them in slices on a sandwich, add them to a salad or put them in jars and make pickles or lightly salted. Vegetables are easy to grow, but they require the right conditions for growth. It is important not only the location and regular watering, but also the planting date.
Can you sow cucumbers in July? You have to remember one thing
The best time to sow cucumbers is the second half of May and the first half of June. Then you can be sure that the frosts have passed and the soil is warm enough. If you plant cucumbers after this date, they will not have enough time to develop and ripen. There is, however, an exception to this rule: Until July 10, you can still plant cucumbers, but only varieties intended for pickling.
They then require additional protection from intense sun and frequent watering. If you want to extend the harvest season, it is best to install a foil tunnel in the garden. It allows for earlier sowing of vegetables (in the second half of April) and protects them from temperature fluctuations.

They prefer warm, sunny and sheltered positions. They do not tolerate shade or wind. They feel best in humus, fertile and slightly moist soil. If you neglect to water the vegetables, they will stop flowering and fruiting. They may also die completely. Instead of sowing cucumbers in the ground right away, it is better to prepare seedlings a month in advance.
- Pour alkaline soil into the pots,
- Place three seeds in each of them,
- After May 15, transplant the cucumbers with the entire root ball to their permanent location.
You can enrich the soil with nettle slurry, biohumus and compost. Have you noticed that it has small and yellow leaves, and the fruit is underdeveloped and deformed?
