Every year during the holidays, there are voices urging tourists to give up transport by horse-drawn carriages on the asphalt road to Morskie Oko in the Tatras. Every year, there are also voices claiming that horses are not harmed on this route. The latter group includes the disco polo vocalist Kordian, who comes from the Sądecczyzna region and is called the “king of highland disco polo”.

Wacław Cieślik performs in the world of disco polo under the pseudonym Kordian. Not only does he live and create in the southern region of Poland, but he also likes to refer to highland music in his songs. The website decided to ask him for his opinion on the issue of horses used to transport tourists on the route to Morskie Oko.
Animal-drawn carriages have been a subject of heated discussion on several Tatra routes for years. Kordian admits that he breeds horses himself and from his perspective, working in this way is completely normal:
I have horses myself. A horse is there to support and help, of course, a person, because these are animals that should work, there are horses for riding, which are ridden, there are draft horses. Since the dawn of time, horses have been used in the field, on the land – he stated.
He also referred to situations in which horses on tourist routes are overloaded, have accidents, and sometimes the recordings show them lying on the asphalt. This, according to the vocalist, may also be the result of… “a bad day” in the animal used for work:
That this horse, some, fainted or lay down… The highlanders take care of their horses the best of all in the world, I think. But it’s also an animal, it also has its bad days, just like a human. But it’s an animal. And let’s not compare animals to humans. I think that all this “hype” around these horses shouldn’t happen, but of course there are some supporters who want to make a fuss about themselves and will do anything, even this horse that lay down there for a moment and then got up a moment later – he summed up.
