In 1995, in Los Angeles, choreographer Robin Antin founded a music group called The Pussycat Dolls. On the wave of its popularity, she signed a lucrative contract with a record company, transforming the formation after 8 years of activity into . The line-up consisted of Nicole Scherzinger, Carmit Bachar, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton and Kiberly Wyatt. Together they recorded two albums and promoted such as “Don’t Cha”, “Buttons”, “When I Grow Up” and “Jai Ho (You Are My Destiny)”.
They were the most popular girl group in the world. After 5 years, The Pussycat Dolls disappeared from the scene
Although the “dolls” enjoyed international fame, performing not only on their own but also with other big stars, their joint career lasted only 5 years. In 2008, they released their second album “Doll Domination”, which, like the album, was an instant hit, but even that did not save the band from falling apart. Fans could not believe it when the world’s most popular girl band announced that they were leaving the stage, especially since, apart from the music industry, the vocalists were also active in the cosmetics market.
It quickly turned out, however, that the backstage activities of The Pussycat Dolls were not as rosy as many thought. Reports of a bad atmosphere between the members of the group and fights that allegedly took place behind the scenes began to appear in the media. However, the biggest controversy was caused by rumors that the stars were supposed to be involved in… prostitution. This was the last straw.
The Pussycat Dolls star speaks directly about the group’s functioning. Her statement caused a scandal
The speculations did not die down, and were fueled by Kaya Jones herself, who used to be a member of the band. In a post published on the X portal, she revealed that the practices used in the band were indeed far from moral. She directly called The Pussycat Dolls a “sex worker circle”, explaining that being a part of them involved going to bed with high-ranking men in the industry. What’s more, any girl who refused these conditions was to be immediately excluded from the group.
My truth. I wasn’t in a band, but in a sex worker circle. We sang and were famous, while many people made big money off of us.
Her statements were categorically denied by Robin Antin, who claimed that it was a poor attempt to capitalize on the scandal and Jones’ revenge for not being “called up” to the main line-up. Then the matter went quiet for a while, but it came back to the fore in 2019, when the “dolls” were announced to return to the stage. They even released their new single “React”, but the coronavirus pandemic suspended their work. Then a dispute began over both financial and artistic issues. The founder of the group claimed that she was demanding a high salary and, in addition, controlled everything, wanting to become the leader. Ultimately, the conflict ended in court, which definitely buried the fans’ hopes for The Pussycat Dolls’ reunion. If you’d like, please vote in our poll below.
