Leans, squats, and hip circles performed by construction workers are an unusual sight. In Poland, it is virtually unheard of for anyone to think about warming up before starting physical work. That is a mistake. There are countries where it is routine practice. Recently, a video has been gaining popularity on Instagram, showing a group of men in uniforms and hard hats starting their day with a morning warm-up.
They start their construction work with gymnastics classes.
Stretching not only reduces the risk of injury during work, but also improves employee well-being and productivity. This is especially important in construction work. Frequent lifting of heavy objects can cause serious injuries, spinal disorders, muscle tears, or inflammation.
Employers in the United States, Japan and China have included morning warm-ups on their employees’ lists of duties for years. On YouTube, under the slogan “stretch and flex”, as this practice is technically called, you can find instructional videos and movement lists dedicated to specific professions.
There is another reason why it is worth swapping your morning coffee for gymnastics. A body that exercises regularly is strong, powerful and resistant to a greater number of external factors. By improving our condition, we can achieve a longer work experience, even in professions that are physically demanding.
“Mega initiative”
There were a lot of comments under the video posted on Instagram and it is clear that the practice was also liked by Poles. “Very nice. Bravo for such an attitude”, “If it had to be done like this, there would definitely be fewer grandparents who walk around broken in retirement” – we read among the opinions.
