Even though I do not support many of the actions of the Catholic Church and do not identify with its political sympathies, because of my faith I have not given up attending Sunday masses. I know that currently most people in our country “believe but do not practice”. However, I have not decided to take this step. I belong to a parish where priests do not talk about politics and the alleged fight against religion in the modern world during services. Besides, religious practice is very good for me. Participating in Sunday mass makes me optimistic and calms me down.
She went to church in the Lublin region. She was terrified by what happened during mass
My recent experiences have made me realize how lucky I am in this regard. And I am not at all surprised that believers are giving up on attending Sunday masses. What happened during a service in one of the small parishes in the Lublin region really scared me.
Last weekend I visited my aunt. On Sunday, I decided to go to church with her. I’ve never been there before. I usually visited my aunt on weekdays and Saturdays. So I decided to take advantage of the opportunity and check what masses are like in her parish.
I was in a church in the countryside. Never again! The priest suddenly started shouting at the faithful godongphoto//shutterstock
The priest started shouting at the faithful. I was disgusted
At the very beginning, there was nothing to suggest that this mass would be significantly different from the others. However, during the sermon, the priest suddenly “went off”. He focused on the renovation of the church and financial issues. I was shocked when he started shouting at his faithful. He was angry with them for not paying enough money. He said that “they forget about their parish and that this is another attack on the Church”.
Someone may say that it was a unique situation, that I was just unlucky. However, my aunt told me that this was the norm in their church. The priest shouts at the faithful and often holds a grudge against them. What terrified me most was his aggression. These were not polite requests or information about financial problems. He simply shouted at the faithful because, from his perspective, he simply deserved the money.
My aunt only has one church in her village. He doesn’t drive a car, so he can’t go to services in other parishes. I think if I were her, I would stop going to Sunday mass. Because I don’t get anything good from such services, even though I am a believer.
