Nobody expected SUCH a film in the Netflix top 10. Recommended by Stephen King himself

A new action movie recently debuted on Netflix. Few people expected it to achieve such success, especially since in recent years its subject matter has been associated with B-grade productions and lower. Stephen King couldn’t believe the film either, but after watching it he surprised himself.

Stephen King, the author of many cult horror films, is also a famous film critic. He regularly shares his opinions about films and series on X (formerly Twitter) and other social media platforms. His recommendations are appreciated by fans, who are often guided by his taste when choosing titles to watch. King is known for his harsh criticism, but also for his praise for productions that stand out from others.

Netflix tops

The platform’s rankings are dynamic, and films and series change their positions depending on the number of viewers. Due to the fact that Netflix is still the most popular streaming platform in the world, finding itself in its rankings is for many filmmakers – not only the smaller ones.

The movie “Sharks in the Seine”

Movie “Sharks in the Seine” (orig. “Under Paris”) gained unexpectedly huge popularity, both in Poland and around the world. It tells the story of scientist Sophia, who discovers that a huge shark has found itself in the Seine just before the famous triathlon in Paris, which leads to chaos during the competition. The film is directed by Xavier Gens and stars Bérénice Bejo.

Stephen King’s reaction

Stephen King was initially skeptical about “Sharks in the Seine”, comparing the film to a series “Sharknado.” However, after numerous recommendations, he decided to give it a chance. On X wrote:

I thought UNDER PARIS was going to be a joke movie like SHARKNADO, but Twitter convinced me to watch it, and it’s actually quite good. The last 25 minutes were amazing

Movie popularity

The film received mixed reviews from critics, but gained praise from Netflix users who praised its entertaining nature. On social media, the film was described as “shockingly good” and it was compared to the classic of the genre, such as “Jaws”, placed in a Parisian context.

“Sharks in the Seine” is another example of the fact that even films that at first glance may seem unusual and doomed to failure, they can win the hearts of viewers and become a hit on streaming platforms. Thanks to Stephen King’s recommendation, the film gained additional popularity, which will probably convince many who were previously undecided.
