Zinegoakthe Bilbao LGTBIQ+ film and performing arts festival, will be held from June 24 to July 1 with the development of more than 50 activities including screenings, performing arts, meetings, professional conferences and parties.
The festival’s opening gala will be held on June 24 at the Arriaga Theater, and will be attended by Argentine filmmaker Clarisa Navas, who will receive the festival’s Honorary Award.
In this year’s edition, 15 feature films and 30 short films will compete in each of its sections, and Zinegoak will have, in addition to the usual ones, two new cycles: Queertopiak and Sexilios.
The festival will take place in its usual venues such as Bilborock, Golem Alhondiga, BilbaoArte, Bira, Sarean cinemas, Arriaga theater and Guggenheim museum.
The closing gala of the festival will be held on Monday, July 1, in Bilborock, and the winners of the 21st edition will be announced, including the Zinegoak Grand Prix sponsored by EITB.
For the first time, Zinegoak and the EITB’s Primeran platform will also offer a channel with some of the Basque-produced films participating in the festival, as well as other audiovisual content related to sexual diversity.
In addition to Bilbao, once again Zinegoak is celebrated in several other locations.
As explained this Tuesday by the director of the contest, Alaitz Arenzana, this year the festival emphasizes “the power of imagining and building our presents and our futures, and the need to do so not only individually, but collectively.”
