The 61st National Festival of Polish Song in Opole took place this weekend. The festival lasted from Friday to Sunday. On the first day, distinguished artists and younger musicians performed with their new songs. On Saturday, rock and older, well-known songs reigned supreme. On the last day, Polish Television broadcast the concert “Lovers Are Among Us”. After the festival, Wojciech Mann managed to comment.
Wojciech Mann, a well-known Polish music journalist, has repeatedly commented on various aspects of the Polish Song Festival in Opole. Journalist and critical opinions, reflecting both his experience and requirements regarding the quality of music and the organization of this long-term event. A year ago, he wondered whether artists reaching for classic Polish music even knew what they were singing about, because in his opinion many of the performances were “grotesque”.
Comment by Wojciech Mann
It must be admitted that last year Mann’s statement was more critical. That’s not to say he’s been lenient this year. He started his comment on Facebook with his personal feelings towards this edition:
After watching the Opole 2024 concerts, I won’t go into stories about my (very mixed) impressions because it will make me sad.
Then Wojciech Mann wrote about debutants who according to him, they were unable to fully showcase their talent because of the arrangement. As we mentioned earlier, he called many performances of iconic songs “grotesque” that year, which was a harsher statement.
The debutants were unnecessarily told to give up without a fight to Niemen’s music
Only “old people” perform rock at the festival in Opole
Wojciech Mann for one more thing. It was about Saturday rock shows. The legends of Polish rock appeared on the stage, including Bajm, Big Cyc, Lady Pank, Wilki, Bran Zamkyjny, Sztywny Pal Asia and Chłopcy z Placu Broni. The youngest artist there was Krzysztof Zalewski, but he is closer to the musicians from this list than to young bands. A journalist from Radio Nowy ¦wiat commented on this situation:
However, Opole left one, and false, impression: in Poland only old people perform rock music. Who came up with this idea?
And how? In your opinion Did this year’s Polish Song Festival in Opole fall out? Do you share Wojciech Mann’s opinion? Share your opinion in the comments.
