Thujas, or arborvitaes, have been ruling gardens and even terraces for a long time. When growing thuja, it is important, among other things, to: appropriate substrate. The soil should be light, fertile and permeable, slightly acidic. Depending on the variety, the distance between individual bushes should be from 50 cm for thuja brabant to 70 cm. Thanks to this, the hedge will be thick enough. However, regardless of whether you plant them in a row or as single ornamental shrubs, it is worth remembering about proper care and watering.
When and with what to fertilize thuja? Go for gelatin fertilizer and you won’t regret it
Thujas do not require particularly frequent watering. During the period of their intensive growth, it is enough to water the bushes once a week. On hot days and in summer, it is worth increasing the frequency. Remember to pour water only on the roots and do not soak the shoots. It is worth using fertilizer for thuja and coniferous shrubs three times a year: in spring, summer and early autumn.
However, it is worth using home-made nutrients for watering, thanks to which they will grow beautifully and become lush green. This is where the real salvation turns out fertilizer made of water and gelatin, which will provide the bushes with a portion of nitrogen. How to make it?
- Dissolve 1 tablespoon of gelatin in 2 liters of warm water.
- Set aside to cool.
- Water the thuja.
- Apply fertilizer once every week or two during the period of intensive growth.
