Remote work has its charms and privileges, and a crying baby or a dog barking during “important” meetings has become completely normal for many people. I also belong to this group, but at the same time I really appreciate the ability to come to the office whenever I want. I am glad that my employer made sure that we meet as a whole team in the office whenever possible, but sometimes the behavior of my colleagues at work is far from normal. I don’t know exactly what this means. Perhaps due to certain habits learned at home or simply laziness. And although it seems to me that since we live in a society, everyone should be guided by certain principles of savoir vivre, unfortunately this is not the case. Some people’s behavior is inappropriate and notappropriate to the place and situation and at the same time interfering with other people’s space and disturbing the peace. Unfortunately, even at work, as I learned the hard way today.
The principles of savoir-vivre at work are of great importance, but not everyone knows it. “I was hoping it was some kind of joke”
I start every day with coffee and I really like this ritual. Even being present in the office does not prevent me from cultivating tradition. Since I decided to work on-site today, after arriving at the office, early in the morning, I went to the work kitchen to get my favorite mug to make some coffee. When I opened the cabinet, I was very surprised. Not only was the cup in a different place, but there was something in it that smelled terrible. I hoped it was some kind of joke, but after picking it up I really couldn’t laugh. There was something in it that simply looked like a mushroom. These bacteria were coming out of the inside and I almost vomited at the sight. I’m sure that when I was in the office three months ago, I put the washed mug back in the cupboard in the same place. There was one conclusion. Someone drank from it and hasn’t washed it yet.

“We will work in a garbage dump”
I didn’t make a fuss about it, because I’m not used to it, but I thought that it would never occur to me to leave a dirty mug and, worse yet, put it back in the cupboard as if nothing had happened. This is just plain rudeness and lack of culture. I would collapse if someone suggested to me that I didn’t clean up after myself. After all, it says something about us! How can something like this be allowed to happen? People don’t seem to have any shame, that’s all. Maybe I should have found the culprit, but I didn’t feel like digging into it. I also know that this is not just one such situation. That’s why now I’m taking the first step and writing these words to those who read them. This is a good moment to be outraged and show that if we do not care for the common good, we will end up living in a garbage heap. Worse, we’ll be working in a garbage dump! Let us finally notice what is happening, because things are not good.
Lena.
