It gets caught in your hair and, as a larva, it ruins your garden. It’s not the May cockchafer. How to get rid of it?

They get tangled in hair and clothes, most often causing fear and reluctance. Meanwhile, they are not dangerous to our health. The situation with trees is slightly different. What does the distant cousin of the May cockchafer look like and how to get rid of it so that it does not ruin the garden?

The red beetle is a medium-sized beetle, which in appearance and behavior somewhat resembles the May beetle. Unlike its distant relative, it appears most often and in great numbers in June. It is also slightly smaller and is suitable for gardens with fruit trees.

When do the beetles start? You will meet this one mainly in June

In its adult form, the red squirrel is 14 to 18 millimeters long, has a honey-brown carapace and a hairy head. Although it is not dangerous to humans, few people like it. All because it likes to get tangled in clothes and even hair. Its mating season begins in late spring, so you can observe a lot of individuals both in cities and smaller towns. At night they are drawn to the light, including into apartments.

Is the black beetle dangerous? For people no, for the garden yes

Red beetles do not bite or transmit diseases, but encounters with them are not always pleasant. Especially when they get tangled in your hair, causing quite a stir. Unfortunately, they can cause considerable damage to the garden, because they feed mainly on the leaves of trees, including fruit trees. Also dangerous to plants are the larvae of the black beetle, for which all kinds of roots are a delicacy. By eating them, they damage vegetables, fruits, bushes and trees.

How to get rid of red beetle? Act decisively

Getting rid of moth larvae from the garden is not easy, but not impossible. As soon as you notice its presence, take action immediately. The first step should be to dig the garden up to 15-20 cm, thanks to which the pests will be visible to watchful birds and hedgehogs. Moreover, it is worth inviting them to the garden for a longer time, setting up boxes or other beds, because they will help with many unpleasant guests. In addition, it will also work. Guniaks remain in the form of larvae for up to 3 years, so it is worth expelling them as soon as possible. Since adults lay eggs in the grass, regular lawn care will also minimize the chance of them appearing. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
