Some time ago, what equipment or objects did you or your family have at home? The majority clearly stated that the king of Polish households was the Frania washing machine, a walking (in many cases literally) legend. As of May 15, 2,298 people, i.e. as much as 34 percent. voters admitted that they had it years ago. In second place was the Zenit camera, which had 1,976 votes (30 percent of voters). We checked how much both of these devices cost today.

Zenit reigned in many homes long before Kodaks and Nikons appeared. Produced in the USSR (first in Russia, later also in Belarusian plants), the cameras entered the market in the 1950s and developed over the years. Considered to be more advanced models, they were the dream of many amateur photographers. They still lie in attics, closets and crawl spaces in many homes.

Today, according to the offers for the Zenit camera, depending on the model, condition and equipment, it can cost from several dozen to even… PLN 7,000. However, prices usually range from PLN 20 to PLN 100. The most expensive models are those produced in limited quantities, e.g. Zenit BM, additionally equipped with equally rare lenses, and at the same time preserved in perfect condition.

How much can you get for a Frania washing machine? Many people still keep it “for a rainy day”

What about the equally popular Frania washing machine? The Polish miracle of technology, i.e. the electric rotary washing machine produced by Zakłady Wyrobów Metalowych “SHL” in Kielce, was considered an indestructible and multi-tasking device. There are legends in many families about what was done with its help, and contrary to appearances, not all of them concern making drinks, as there are even stories about churning butter. The washing machine has become a thing of the past, although there are people who dream about it. And there are houses where it still works and is still kept in basements or garages “for a rainy day”.

Does sentiment towards Frania translate into its price? Much depends on her condition. You can come across new and never used items costing up to PLN 500. Used, but working, although requiring thorough cleaning, they cost from PLN 100 to PLN 250. Even slightly worn pieces cost around PLN 100. A real treat are washing machines with a spindle.
