The first four episodes of the third season of the hit series “Bridgertons” have been released on Netflix. Nicola Coughlan, who plays the role of Penelope Featherington, will boldly present her charms on the screen, just like her predecessors.

When I’m 80, I want to look at these scenes and remember how damn attractive I was – says Nicola Coughlan, Penelope Featherington in the TV series, with satisfaction. we have known the show for three seasons, only now a young girl preparing for spinsterhood will experience true and very, very hot love – because that’s what “Bridgertons” is about, this love as hot as lava.

“The Bridgertons”. Nicola Coughlan asked for more on-screen nudity

Nicola Coughlan had to wait for her moment until the third season. In the first two, she played a slightly comic, slightly tragic role. The more all the girls got husbands, the more she almost grew into the wall from leaning on it while dancing. The more the object of her sighs ignored her, the worse it became. The wardrobe her mother chose for Penelope hurt her eyes. She was invisible, “the nice one,” the one that other mothers show to their daughters and whisper a warning: you’ll end up like her if you don’t find a husband this season.

And yet Penelope Featherington also has the right to love – and the kind that her friends experienced in earlier episodes. Nicola Coughlan had no intention of being inferior in this regard. She specially worked with the intimacy coordinator on how to show even more nudity than the script originally assumed. She had a very specific goal:

I asked for more lines and “moments”. There is one scene where I am completely naked in front of the camera, and that was my idea and my choice. With this scene I say to everyone who criticizes my body: f**k you. It was very empowering, I felt very beautiful then, says Nicola Coughlan in an interview with Stylist, referring to the many years of discussion about her body in the tabloid media.

At the beginning of the promotional campaign for the new season of “Bridgerton”, Nicola Coughlan wrote a column for “”, in which she discusses the importance of an ideal body – ideal, of course, in the sense of the camera and the audience. Being “beyond” size is extremely difficult:

“You have to be the right size. Remember that the camera adds about ten pounds to your weight, so your size should be even smaller than your ideal size. If for some reason you are unable to meet this requirement, be prepared that in every interview you do, they will ask you about your figure, not your job. They ask me about it every time. In 2018, I asked for the focus to be on my work, not on my body,” wrote the actress.
