Putin on the Olympic Truce: The West itself violates principles regarding Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke about the West’s proposal for an Olympic truce. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Putin said that Western countries themselves violate the principles of Olympism, including by not allowing Russians to participate in the Games with the flag and anthem. “They violate our attitude, but they want us to follow the rules that are dictated to us… Dear friends, we won’t go that far,” the head of state concluded.
Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hope that conflicts in the world would stop during the Olympics in Paris. He noted that he would make every effort to implement this idea, with the help of international partners, including Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Russians and Belarusians, if a number of conditions are met, will be able to compete in the individual competitions of the tournament in a neutral status.
