It is a valuable relic from the times of the Polish People’s Republic and many people may still have it in the attic or in a drawer. We are talking about a housing book, which several dozen years ago was a way to get your own apartment. Today no one remembers her, which is a pity. It’s worth a lot.

In the times of the Polish People’s Republic (1944-1989), the housing booklet was a savings instrument. It allowed me to save money for my own place. Nowadays, it can be compared to a savings account. The books were created primarily for children right after birth to make it easier for them to start their adult lives. The most popular was the one issued by PKO Bank Polski.

How much can you get for a housing booklet? It is worth eliminating it

In the years 1989-1990, there was hyperinflation, which resulted in the value of funds accumulated in housing books decreasing. Additionally, in 1993, the Supreme Court decided that funds accumulated in booklets would not be subject to indexation. Contrary to appearances, this does not mean that the document will no longer be useful to you. It is estimated that nearly one million Poles still have a housing booklet.

According to information posted by the Ministry of Development and Technology on the website you can receive a guarantee bonus for liquidating the book. It’s very profitable because you can get up to PLN 16,000. PLN, depending on the value of the withdrawals made previously. Withdrawals are made by PKO BP bank.

How to withdraw money from a housing book? You can’t sell it

The amount of the guarantee premium is calculated based on the price per 1 square meter of usable area of ​​a residential building, which is valid in a given quarter of payment, the type of construction and the price reported before the quarter of submitting the application for liquidation of the book. To receive cash, several conditions must be met. Above all the housing booklet must be established before October 24, 1990. Secondly the money obtained should be invested for housing purposes, i.e. purchase or construction, purchase of an apartment, renovation of real estate, own contribution or repayment of a mortgage loan. Please remember that the book cannot be sold or bought. It can only be transferred to someone else, e.g. a child, grandchild, sibling.
