Only 18% of actors and artists from the audiovisual sector of the CAV enter more than 18,000 euros per year and 69% are below the poverty line; Almost half must resort to a second job outside of the artistic one. However, all indicators are more positive than the state average.

These are some of the conclusions drawn by the 5th Socio-labor Report of the AISGE Foundation, the Spanish entity that manages intellectual property rights of actors, voice actors, dancers and stage directors. The study reflects data extracted from online surveys of more than 3,000 artists (250 interviews in the CAV) in 2023, which represent almost 40% of those associated with AISGE.

Almost half (48%) of those surveyed in Araba, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa stated that they earn less than 6000 euros per year for their artistic work, and 35% less than 3000 euros.

Another of the most striking data from the socio-labor report is that in Euskadi unemployment in the artistic sector affects twice as many men what of women: 38% compared to 19%. As a consequence, Basque artists report an average annual income of 10,390 euros for their artistic work and men 9,490 euros.

The report reveals that the unemployment rate is 13%, although to understand this figure it is worth noting that nearly half of artists resort to a second job outside of their artistic career.
