Russian rower stripped of neutral status due to video with Putin

Canoeist Pavlov was deprived of neutral status for liking a video with Putin

Russian canoeist Mikhail Pavlov was deprived of neutral status. This was stated by the President of the All-Russian Federation of Kayaking and Canoeing, Evgeny Arkhipov, as quoted by TASS.

Arkhipov said that the reason was the rower’s likes on a video with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “Did someone report? Of course, but guess who, guess for yourself,” he noted.

Due to the deprivation of his status, Pavlov was unable to compete at the European qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in double canoes. Alexey Korovashkov and Ivan Shtyl came in as replacements and won an Olympic license.

Earlier, the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine demanded that Russian rowers be removed from the Olympics. The Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians, if a number of conditions are met, will be able to compete in the individual competitions of the tournament in a neutral status.
