Do you have sunscreen from last year? Check if you can use it. One detail decides everything

The May weekend spoiled us with beautiful weather, so we are already thinking about holidays. The basic element of every suitcase should be sunscreen. Many people still have a tube from last year in a drawer. The pharmacist asks if you can use it.

SPF creams should be used all year round, not just during the holidays. Protection from the sun is also important on cloudy days because solar radiation penetrates through clouds and windows. In summer, we should wear a baseball cap or a hat with a brim covering the face, avoid exposure to the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and use protective cosmetics.

Can you use sunscreen from last year? The pharmacist spoke up

When we go on vacation, we have a lot of things to pack. We remember to buy new flip-flops or a swimsuit, but we often forget to buy sunscreen. That’s why we’re looking for leftovers from last year at the last minute. Sometimes we do not use the entire tube and hide it in a drawer thinking that it will be useful in crisis situations.

Pharmacist Marcin Korczyk decided to raise this issue on his Instagram profile. It turns out that if the cream has been opened before, we cannot use it this year. – If the cosmetic was with you on the beach or on a trip to the mountains and you used it, it is better not to use it now. There have been such changes that it will not provide adequate protection against the sun – explained “Pan Tabletka”.

What does SPF do for the face? Old cream may work in the opposite way than it should

This may be a surprise for many people, because since the expiration date has not passed, it would seem that it is still suitable for use. – Even if this cosmetic still has the PAO date, i.e. Period After Opening, the number of months on the open lid, it may not protect well. Generally, I do not recommend it, added Korczyk. The pharmacist decided to check it for himself and before running, he applied sunscreen from last year. The cosmetic did not work, and Marcin had the impression that his skin was even more sensitive to the sun and tanned faster. Therefore, it may happen that after such a period of time the cream will lose its properties or even have the opposite effect. If you bought the cream in September or October and it was left unopened in a drawer in a cool place, you can safely use it this year.
