The holiday custom of giving gifts to loved ones is celebrated in most regions of the world on Christmas. Gifts are under the Christmas tree. The tradition has been known since the 13th century and is to refer to the gifts that the Three Kings made to Jesus. As a result of penetration into the European tradition of American culture, also in Europe, Saint Nicholas is more and more often identified with Christmas gifts. However, this was not always the case.
Who brings gifts in Poland for Christmas? It’s not always Santa Claus
Depending on the region we live in, various characters gave gifts to children and adults. in all regions she gives gifts to children on December 6, but someone else leaves gifts under the Christmas tree.
In Greater Poland, Kujawy, Pałuki, Kashubia and Western Pomerania, Christmas presents are traditionally brought under the Christmas tree by the Christmas tree. and in Małopolska the Angel leaves gifts. According to tradition, he gives out gifts with Snow White. In the Byzantine tradition, its counterpart is Saint Basil, who gives gifts to children on January 1. In Spain, however, gifts are brought by the Three Wise Men only on January 6. Children in this country do not find any present under the Christmas tree.
