Drivers take alternate roads while intervention is coordinated on a section of the Chimbo-El Cristal road affected by subsidence

Drivers will be able to travel on the Guaranda-San Miguel-Las Guardias-Balsapamba highway. Also by routes that lead from Chimbo to La Asunción.

While actions are being coordinated to technically assess the damage in the area, vehicular traffic on the Chimbo-El Cristal state highway is restricted after the 150-meter subsidence of the highway that affected five homes, but left no fatalities or injuries.

According to the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (MTOP), whose representatives met on Wednesday in the Provincial Emergency Operations Committee (COE), the accident was the result of the lack of maintenance of the municipal hydrosanitary infrastructure in the Tambán sector, Chimbo canton , in the province of Bolívar.

Landslide in Chimbo caused damage to homes and the road; at least five families were affected

The state portfolio pointed out that the filtration of water for community use caused land subsidence in the Tambán neighborhood and affected the Chimbo-El Cristal road, which currently has settlements and longitudinal and transverse fissures in some sections.

While the Chimbo-Cristal road is closed due to this emergency, drivers will be able to travel on the Guaranda-San Miguel-Las Guardias-Balsapamba highway.

Detachment of the mountain took away a section of the track table in the El Guadual sector that connects the northern Sierra with Esmeraldas

Also by alternate roads that lead from Chimbo to La Asunción, La Magdalena and surrounding communities.

Last March, the Chimbo cantonal COE declared an emergency in the Tambán neighborhood, belonging to the San José de Chimbo parish, in the face of land subsidence that had affected several homes. (I)
