The new “Television Theater” on TVP, and Krystyna Janda returns after many years

A new version, a new hour and the desire to restore the former importance of theater on public television – these are the changes that the director of the Television Theater, Micha³ Kotañski, hopes to introduce. One of the first performances will feature Krystyna Janda, who recently complained about the lack of film offers and at the same time criticized the state of Polish cinema.

Viewers will be able to see the new version in the May Polish Television broadcast Television Theater, which underwent a thorough metamorphosis this year, refreshing both the logo and the title. One of the most important news is the return to the stage of the Television Theater of an outstanding actress who, after over eight years of break, will appear again in the TVP schedule.

Krystyna Janda returns to TVP

After the latest news about the lack of film offers and a critical look at the condition of Polish cinema, her return to TVP may please the actress’ fans. Krystyna Janda, known for roles such as Agnieszka in Andrzej Wajda’s “Man of Marble”, raised difficult social issues on stage, this time in the monodrama “Notes from Exile”, telling the story of a young emigrant from 1968, Sabina Baral. The play, previously performed 165 times at the Polonia Theater in Warsaw, gained recognition among the audience thanks to its deeply personal and moving message.

What other performances are planned for May?

The May repertoire of the Television Theater will include other, equally interesting proposals. Viewers will have the opportunity to watch as many as 4 premieres of performances per month. Additionally, the broadcast time is also more friendly, as it has been changed from 9 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. On May 13, viewers will have the opportunity to watch the adaptation of the detective novel “I’ll tell you how he died” by Maciej Słomczyński, also known under the pseudonym Joe Alex. Directed by Marek Bukowski, the film takes us to England, where Ian Drummond, an outstanding chemist and husband of a famous actress, Sara, is murdered in mysterious circumstances. The following weeks will also bring “Cudzoziemka” based on the novel by Maria Kuncewiczowa and the musical “1989”, which in style refers to the famous “Hamilton”, but with a Polish musical accent.

The new director of the TV Theater, Michał Kotański, is responsible for the changes in the Television Theater, emphasizing that his goal is to restore this institution to its due rank and importance in the Polish cultural landscape. he said that he “found the TV Theater in complete ruin.” Graphic designer Patryk Hardziej, responsible for refreshing the logo and header, tried to maintain classic proportions while adding a modern accent, which symbolizes the balance between tradition and innovation.
