Will frozen grapes recover after frosts? You better act fast. He will be given a boost to grow

Spring weather whims do not spoil us. High temperatures gave way to cold and even night frosts. Such fluctuations keep many fruit growers, including grape growers, awake at night. Can we somehow help our home vineyards in this difficult time? Will frozen grapes recover?

The country was informed about the problems of the Turnau Vineyard, which, like many other growers, is struggling with a wave of night frosts. Anyone who has grape bushes in their garden will understand this. These plants are sensitive to low temperatures, so despite efforts and proper care, there is a risk of poor harvests every year. Unfortunately, there is no solution to resuscitate frost-damaged shoots. However, we can help our grapes in several ways to strengthen what we have managed to preserve from the plants.

Will grapes recover after a frost? Cutting will give us valuable information

Young leaves, shoots and fruit buds are most susceptible to frost damage. When they turn brown and wither, there is no help for them. The best way to check them is to cut a few buds on the vine with a sharp knife. If we see a green interior, they are still alive and we can help them develop. However, we must remember that it is best to check the condition of our plant in June, when all the leaves have developed.

How to save grapes? Sometimes the only solution is to cut it off completely

If only a few shoots of our bush have died, we can help the rest of the plant get to a better condition. It is best to cut withered leaves, buds and shoots with pruners. A good solution is to prepare special manures from horsetail, nettle and onion and garlic mixtures. Such a “cocktail” used regularly for watering will definitely strengthen the vine from the very roots. We also need to pay special attention to make sure it is not attacked by any insects, e.g. aphids. As a preventive measure, you can spray the grapes with a 1:10 solution of vinegar and water with a small amount of dishwashing liquid. This will effectively protect our plant against unwanted guests.

If we see that the entire plant does not turn green and the shoots are completely damaged, it should be cut to a height of approximately 20 cm. Never uproot a grape, because the bush regenerates quickly and it may turn out that the plant will rebound from the ground after this procedure. Remember that the best time for these activities will be the turn of July and August. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
