It used to be a symbol of luxury and a center for the Warsaw elite of the Polish People’s Republic. Everyone knew this block

PRL blocks are very popular on the secondary market. Most often, they are rectangular blocks and there is nothing eye-catching in their appearance. However, this block is special. It is located five minutes from Warsaw’s Old Town, and only the elite lived here.

The housing estates are characterized by well-developed infrastructure – proximity to public transport, schools, churches and service points. There is often a lot of greenery in the area, which attracts buyers who do not want to live in built-up and concreted new housing estates. Block on the street Kozieja 9 in Warsaw is incredibly impressive. Not only is it located in the city center, but there is an interesting story behind it.

How was construction done in the Polish People’s Republic? This block still impresses with its form and size. The smallest apartments are as much as 60 square meters

It’s easy to miss because it’s out of the way, but once someone notices it, it’s hard to take your eyes off it. The building stands out from others. It is built in a modernist style and its shape attracts attention.

It was built in 1974-1976, and Jerzy Kuźmienka and Piotr Sembrata were responsible for the design. There are 23 apartments inside, including two-level ones, and the total usable area of the entire block is 2,548 square meters. The smallest apartments are on the left and are between 60 and 70 square meters. In the middle staircase there are medium-sized apartments from 80 to 100 meters, and in the last part there are apartments of 140 square meters. In those days, such spaces were a real luxury.

What’s on Kozia Street in Warsaw? Our country’s elite once lived here

As it turns out, the block at Kozia 9 was not inhabited by random people, but by privileged and well-situated citizens associated with the then authorities. Among others, ministers, the former president of the National Bank of Poland, and members of the Polish United Workers’ Party lived here. Due to the fact that many people knew that wealthy citizens lived in the building, Burglaries and thefts were frequent, so policemen were quartered on the ground floor. The location of the block itself is equally interesting. There is plenty of greenery and park paths around. Even though it is located in the very center of Warsaw, the noise and bustle of cars is hardly audible. If you feel like it, vote in our poll below.
