Many recordings of this dramatic event circulated around the world. One of them shows what was happening in the TV studio at that time. Despite strong tremors and fragments of the ceiling falling from above, the SET News journalist and the camera operators accompanying her did not interrupt the news service. The recording shows the presenter cold-bloodedly balancing on the swinging floor to maintain her balance and maintain fluency. Viewers were also shown the lamps swinging on the ceiling and what was happening in the editorial office during the earthquake.

As a result of a strong earthquake, the inhabitants of the islands of Okinawa, Miyako and Yaeyama received a warning about the possibility of a tsunami. It was the most powerful disaster of this type to hit Taiwan in almost 25 years. In 1999, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 on the Richter scale took a deadly toll. 2.4 thousand people lost their lives then.
