Mishaps are an inherent part of journalistic work. It would be best if they didn’t happen at all, but we are all only human and we make mistakes sometimes. Television stations that broadcast live are particularly vulnerable to various gaffes. Nowadays, they can also be viewed online, which only puts employees at even greater risk of stress when a mistake occurs.
Big gaffe on the Polsat News strip. “Evening event” was hosted by Jarosław Gugała
Last Sunday, the so-called strip on Polsat News. The mistake occurred during the broadcast of “Evening Events”, hosted by Jarosław Bugała. One of the final materials of the issue was devoted to the participation of President Andrzej Duda in the ceremony on the occasion of the National Day of Remembrance of Poles saving Jews under German occupation.
This date coincides with the 80th anniversary of the death of the Ulma family. On March 24, 1944, a massacre took place in Markowa. The Germans shot Józef and Wiktoria Ulma and their seven children, including one unborn. Eight Jews who were hidden in the attic of the house also died. During World War II, the Ulma family tried to save Polish Jewish families.
Karol Nawrocki, president of the Institute of National Remembrance, said that “the tribute to the Ulma family is a tribute to the victory of good over evil and a tribute to humanity during the German occupation.” Viewers of the Polsat news station also heard the same message. However, during the announcement of the material, a graphic appeared next to Gugała with a glaring error in the inscription: “Homage to the Ulma family”.
No one expected such a mishap at Polsat News. It’s good that Gugała didn’t see her Polsat News promotional materials
