Google said this Monday that he has already introduced “significant changes” in the operation of its services, after the European Commission today opened an investigation against its parent company (Alphabet), Apple and Meta for suspecting that they are failing to comply with the new antitrust regulations of the European Union.
“To comply with the Digital Markets Act, we have introduced significant changes to the operation of our services in Europe. We have engaged with the European Commission, stakeholders and third parties (…) to balance conflicting needs within the ecosystem. “We will continue to defend our approach in the coming months”said in a statement the Director of Competition of Google, Oliver Bethell.
Brussels considers that Google and Apple continue to prioritize their own mobile app stores by preventing app developers from contacting their customers directly to offer them offers.
Furthermore, he believes that Google continues to prioritize its own products in its search services over those of the competition and that Apple has not taken effective measures so that users can uninstall the applications that the company installs by default on mobile devices.
Regarding Meta, Brussels is investigating the payment alternative it has given to its clients who do not want the company to combine their personal data between its different platforms, since it believes that it is not offering them a real alternative to guarantee their privacy.
Google, however, assured that its Android operating system has options and flexibility that are not found in other platforms, such as the possibility for users to have several application stores and to download applications in various ways.
It also stated that it has implemented changes to its search systems, including the introduction of units dedicated to comparison services.
