“This is not ingenuity, this is greed.” They sell broken eggs at a Warsaw market

A resident of one of Warsaw’s districts informed a group of residents that broken eggs were being sold at the local market. We will pay 50 groszy for a “crash”. The post aroused very diverse reactions. Some expressed outrage, while others said that thanks to this, sellers do not waste food products.

Easter is coming soon, so it’s no wonder that many of us are already going Christmas shopping. Organizing holidays at home is both a big logistical and financial challenge. That is why Poles are now starting to buy the necessary ingredients for baking Easter cakes, mazurek cakes, Easter Passover cakes, as well as home-made pâtés, pork loin or for cooking żurek soup. Of course, eggs cannot be missing – the main “heroes” of the Easter table. In Polish homes, they are served in various variations, although the most popular are hard-boiled ones, stuffed with e.g. beets or horseradish.

Many of us will certainly go to the market for this purpose, where we can often get organic eggs straight from the hen. This is often associated with a higher price of this product, but the imagination of some sellers can really surprise. It is known that in trading you need to be creative. However, there are certain limits that should be adhered to when it comes to selling goods – especially if they are food products. We certainly wouldn’t consciously buy rotten vegetables or moldy bread.

Cracked eggs for sale at a Warsaw market. “Isn’t that a shame?”

That is why many residents of one of Warsaw’s districts were outraged by the fact that egg sellers at a well-known market decided to also sell single pieces that had broken. The incident was reported by an Internet user who is part of a group bringing together residents of Ursynów. She also posted photos from the stand. We see a practically empty extruder, but what catches our eye are three broken eggs in the very center. It turns out they were also for sale. “Fresh cracked – 0.50 gr. For scrambled eggs, meat and cakes” – you can read on the cardboard next to the container.

The ingenuity of the ‘Bazarek na Dołku’ traders blew me away today. Isn’t it a shame… a large stand with eggs, horseradish, preserves and 3 broken eggs. Basically useless

– wrote the user.

Her post received over 100 likes and nearly 200 comments. Some people agreed with the author of the photo, saying, for example: “It’s not ingenuity. It’s greed”, “I would be ashamed to sell something like that to someone even for 10 cents. I understand that it might be a shame to throw it away, but you could certainly give it away for free, and not do something like that. The heights of greed. The only worse people are probably the highlanders who make you pay for petting a horse,” writes one of the platform users.

“It’s better to use up something than throw it away. We don’t waste food”

But the post sparked much more emotion and extreme opinions. Many people have noticed that in this way the eggs are not wasted and there will be people who will definitely buy them. “The ‘zero waste’ principle” – some pointed out. “No, it’s not a shame. They either bought these eggs for trade, or their own hens laid them, also for trade. If there are customers who are ready to buy such broken eggs, why shouldn’t traders offer them,” one person noted.

Without exaggeration!!! I often get bumps from this lady. If I know that I will be baking a cake that day, it doesn’t bother me that the egg is cracked. The lady puts it in a clean jar and you can take your own from home. Greed? It’s better to use up the broken pieces than to throw them away. We don’t waste food

– we read in the next comment.

Yes, they are suitable for bread. It’s called zero waste, welcome to the real world

There is demand. There is supply. Selling a crash is nothing new or shocking

Salmonella likes this

Why would a seller throw away something that someone else will use? After all, some chicken put it together and it would be a shame to waste it. And these 50 cents symbolically, so that the vultures do not attack. Those who are determined enough to actually use them will buy them.

People, take care of yourself, instead of judging others, no one is forcing you to buy

– write the others. “I know this place, older people and retirees usually come to buy these eggs. They take the broken pieces into a jar and are very grateful to the seller,” writes another Internet user. In response to her comment, someone said that it would be better to give such products to people for free.
