Daniel Alves pays bail and is expected to be released from prison this Monday

Daniel Alves’ defense paid bail of 1 million euros (R$5.4 million) for the player to be released from prison this Monday. Last Wednesday, the Spanish court authorized the Brazilian’s provisional release while appeals against his rape conviction are analyzed.

According to journalist Mayka Navarro on the program ‘Let’s see’, in Spain, Daniel Alves’ release from prison, after 14 months behind bars, could occur in the next few hours.

“His lawyer Inés Guardiola told him over the phone that they have already managed to raise that million euros that will allow him to leave prison this Monday (…) All precautionary measures will be communicated in person soon. The player has already had all his belongings collected”, said Mayka Navarro.

There was strong speculation that Neymar’s family would pay Daniel Alves’ bail. Previously, Neymar’s father had contributed financially by paying 150,000 euros (R$810,000) in compensation to the victim in the case. However, he officially spoke out last Friday, announcing that he and his son would not help the former right-back this time.

Daniel Alves will have to hand over his two passports, Brazilian and Spanish, to the court, so that there is no possibility of him returning to Brazil, since the country does not have an extradition agreement with Spain. He will also be required to appear in Provincial Court weekly.

Furthermore, Daniel Alves will need to stay away from the victim who accuses him of rape, with a distance of at least 1,000 meters from her home, workplace and any other space frequented by her. Communication between Daniel Alves and the victim is also prohibited.

After the initial sentence of four years, the parties involved in the case requested an appeal, and the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia is expected to issue a new verdict. The former player’s defense, carried out by Inés Guardiola, calls for Daniel Alves’ acquittal. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is demanding an increase in the sentence to nine years.
