Have you been washing your car in the yard for years? Your neighbor may report you. The punishment will not be small

Owners of single-family houses often use the yard to wash their car. In this way, they want to save on car wash costs and polish the car more thoroughly. What does the law say about this? Check before you prepare a sponge and a bucket of water.

All you need is a piece of lawn, a bucket of water, a sponge and some foam to give your car a free car wash. It’s easy and pleasant, especially when it starts to get warmer outside. With the arrival of winter, we want to get rid of the dirt and unsightly traces left by winter from the vehicle. Can we really do this without any consequences in our own backyard?

Can you wash your car on your own property? There is one exception

The sight of a person washing a car in front of the house does not surprise anyone. We assume that if someone has their own backyard, they can easily organize a small spa there. Unfortunately this is illegal. According to the law, vehicles can only be cleaned in specially designated places, i.e. car washes and car workshops.

However, it is worth checking the Regulations for maintaining order and cleanliness in force in a given commune. You will find it in the Public Information Bulletin. It is possible that there is a provision regarding consent to washing a car on private property. Pursuant to the Act on maintaining cleanliness and order in the commune, the regulations must include rules regarding the washing and repair of motor vehicles outside car washes and repair workshops.

What are the penalties for washing your car outside your home? Your wallet may hurt

If you wash your car in a driveway, parking lot or street, you may get a ticket. It is not small, as it amounts to PLN 500. The ban on cleaning cars on private property is due to environmental protection. Dirty water does not flow into the sewage system, but soaks into the soil. This affects the quality of groundwater and poses a threat to people. Additionally, the detergents you use to wash your vehicle may be dangerous to plants and animals. Contrary to appearances, washing a car is not ecological because it uses a lot of water. For 10 minutes it can be up to 320 liters, while at the car wash we use about 260 liters throughout the entire process.
