Laura Garcia Lorcaniece of poet Federico García Lorca, distances himself from the board that manages his uncle’s memory. She has explained that she feels “forced” to resign because of old tweets from her new director, Antonio Membrilla in which he described the Democratic Memory Law.
In a brief letter, to which Europa Press has had access, Laura García Lorca has transferred the president of the Granada Provincial Council his decision to leave the board of trustees, the institution that manages the poet’s House Museum in his hometown, Fuente Vaqueros (Granada), and the Lorca Studies Center, a reference place for researchers and scholars of the poet’s life and work.
“Dear president, as a member of the Federico García Lorca Board of Trustees of the Granada Provincial Council, having read the statements of the new director published in the press, I consider myself obliged to present my resignation,” the poet’s great-niece states in this brief letter, who has refused to make any further statements on the matter.
Also, seven associations linked to the Historical Memory of the province of Granada; five Lorca municipalities; Two unions and three political parties in Granada have called for this Wednesday, starting at 5:00 p.m., a protest rally at the Lorquianos Studies Center in Fuente Vaqueros to ask the president of the Provincial Council to dismiss Antonio Membrilla.
Given this, Membrilla, a few hours after the resignation of Laura García Lorca, has announced that he will not take up his position as director of the Federico García Lorca Board of Trustees given “the current situation generated” in relation to his appointment.
