The family legend about the bomb turned out to be true. “It was necessary to call sappers”

The family legend has been told for many years. The decision to renovate was enough to turn out that there was a real bomb hidden under the floor. Even Soviet soldiers were said to be interested in it, but they decided that it did not pose a major threat. And so the inhabitants of the house walked on it for 80 years.

Some families pass down family legends from generation to generation about previous generations or family places – where they came from or where they live. Over time, these stories begin to be treated as fairy tales that have little to do with reality. However, when the family legend of a family from Suchedniów turned out to be true, the inhabitants of the house could not hide their horror.

The inhabitants of the house lived under the bomb for 80 years

A resident of Suchedniów decided to renovate his house. While working, he came across a dangerous find. The man called the Skarżysko police station and informed that there was probably an air bomb under his floor. Then the situation developed dynamically. Police officers and a pyrotechnician arrived at the scene. They quickly confirmed the information about the unexploded explosion: “An approximately fifty-kilogram air bomb was actually lying under the floor of the house where people had been living since World War II” – we read on the website swietokrzyska.policja.gov.pl.

The legend turned out to be true, but fortunately the unexploded bomb was moved to another place

A family legend told by my grandmother stated that “in 1945, during the Soviet offensive and the withdrawal of German troops, a bomb fell on the house but did not explode. It was supposed to penetrate the roof, floor and get stuck in the ground.” Apparently, Soviet soldiers were later to deal with the unexploded bomb, but in their opinion it did not pose any threat and they abandoned the matter. Soldiers of the mine clearing patrol from the Kielce Center for Preparation for Foreign Missions were called to the site and took away the unexploded bomb, which will probably be disposed of at the military training ground.

The police emphasize what to do in the event of similar finds:

We would like to remind you that despite the passage of time, similar finds are still very dangerous. They must not be moved or tampered with in any way. Always call the services to the scene.
