Spartak announced that Promes will miss the match with Zenit due to detention in Dubai

The head of the press service of Moscow “Spartak” Dmitry Zelenov made a statement about the team’s striker Quincy Promes, who was detained in Dubai. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Zelenov said that Promes will miss the match of the 19th round of the Russian Championship against Zenit St. Petersburg. The club emphasized that they are providing the necessary assistance in resolving the circumstances of the footballer’s detention. It is noted that after returning to Russia, the club will take disciplinary measures against Promes.

On February 29, the football player was detained at border control at Al Maktoum Airport in Dubai. The Dutchman was taken to the police station and was accompanied by red and white security officers.

On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison. According to investigators, in 2019 the player was involved in transporting a large shipment of cocaine that belonged to Surinamese drug trafficker Piet Wartel. After the verdict was announced, the winger was put on the international wanted list.
