The Malaga Film Festival, which celebrates its 27th edition between March 1 and 10, has announced the films that will make up its Official Section, among which are “Nina”, Andrea Jaurrieta’s second feature film as director, and ” We treat women too well”, directed by Bilbao-born Clara Bilbao.

“Nina”, in which EITB participates, tells the story of Nina (Patricia López Arnaiz), who decides to return to the coastal town where she grew up, with a shotgun in her bag and one goal: to take revenge on Pedro, a famous writer whom the people now pay tribute. Her reunion with her place of origin, with her memories of her past and with Blas, a childhood friend, will make her reconsider if revenge is her only option.

The film, successor to “Ana by Day” in Jaurrieta’s filmography, was filmed in Mundaka and Bermeo for six weeks in the spring of 2023. Accompanying López Arnaiz in the cast are Darío Grandinetti (‘The Dance Begins’), Aina Picarolo ( ‘The House Among the Cacti’), Iñigo Aranburu (‘The Europeans’), Mar Sodupe (‘The Hunt’) and Ramón Agirre (‘Amor’).

“We Treat Women Too Well” is Clara Bilbao’s first feature film, after two directed short films and three Goya awards for best costume design. The cast includes Carmen Machi, Antonio de la Torre, Diego Anido, Óscar Ladoire, Ayax Pedrosa, Luis Tosar, Gonzalo de Castro, Juan Luis Pérez, Sergio Alfonso, Juan Luis Cano and Josele Santiago.

Remedios Buendía defends her homeland and will fight for it above all. This fateful day in the autumn of ’45, a group of maquis on the run had the bad idea of taking over the post where Remedios, excited, tries on her wedding dress. Today will be the day in which Remedios will demonstrate how far she can go defending his values. And no one can stop it. Not even this battalion of rebels with smoking rifles and raised fists.

The Official Section will also screen new works by Sebastián Borensztein, David Trueba, Verónica Chen, Isaki Lacuesta and Emilio Marínez-Lázaro.
