Svishchev doubted the validity of the sentence for Promes, convicted in the Netherlands.
State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev reacted to the verdict of Spartak football player Quincy Promes, who was sentenced by a court in the Netherlands to six years in prison for drug smuggling. His words are quoted by RB Sport.
The politician doubted the validity of the verdict. “Now, when in the West people are judged primarily for political reasons, because the passport is the wrong color, the position or faith is not the same, we need to treat all this more carefully,” Svishchev said.

It was previously reported that the Dutchman would not be extradited to his homeland. This is due to the fact that Russia does not have an extradition treaty with the Netherlands.
Earlier, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison. According to investigators, in 2019 the forward was involved in transporting a large amount of cocaine belonging to Surinamese drug trafficker Piet Wartel. Currently, the footballer is with Spartak at a training camp in the UAE.
