The tree, also known as the blackberry tree, is native to tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America. It is a plant originally from Mexico and Guatemala, but also grown in other countries with similar climatic conditions. Over the years, the avocado tree as a cultivated plant also appeared in Asia, Africa and Southern Europe. Avocados in their natural habitat reach several to a dozen or so meters in height. It is a genus of evergreens from the laurel family. Avocado fruits are covered with thick green or brown skin and are pear-shaped.

Avocados are very healthy: they are a source of many vitamins and unsaturated fats. Eating avocado regularly has a positive effect on the functioning of the entire body. An avocado tree can be grown as a home ornamental plant. And although growing an avocado itself is not complicated, the tree bears fruit only after a few years and is rather rare. However, this does not change the fact that the avocado tree looks extremely elegant in the interior and gives it a slightly exotic character.

Wondering how to plant an avocado? Growing avocados at home is not difficult and even inexperienced gardeners can do it. it can easily grow from a fruit seed. There are two methods to grow an avocado from a seed. The first one involves placing the seed in a pot with soil in such a way that its wider part is at the bottom, while the sharper edge of the seed protrudes slightly above the ground surface. The pot should be placed in a bright and warm place and watered regularly.

The first sprouts should appear approximately 1.5-2 months after planting the seed in the ground. As the avocado grows, larger pots will be needed in which the plant will be able to develop without any obstacles.

An avocado pit placed directly in the ground is one of the most frequently used methods for growing avocados at home. However, as we already know, the plant needs some time to germinate, so those who are less patient can use another method.

How to grow an avocado in a jar?

  1. Gently remove the seed from the avocado and clean it of any remaining pulp. Let it dry.
  2. To keep the seed on the surface of the water, insert toothpicks into the seed and rest it on the edge of the jar.
  3. Place the jar in a warm place and top up the water level in the vessel from time to time.
  4. Sprouts should appear after about 3-4 weeks. When they reach a length of about 5 cm, you can transfer the plant to a pot with soil.

An avocado in a pot can be a unique home decoration, but like any exotic plant, it has its own requirements regarding soil and development conditions. Avocados require fertile soil with high permeability to grow properly. This plant is particularly sensitive to overwatering, so you cannot allow moisture to remain in the roots.

Like any tropical plant, avocado thrives in a place with plenty of light, so it is best to place it next to a south-facing window. During the heating season, it is worth ensuring the appropriate level of humidity in the room where the plant is located. To prevent drying out, you can regularly spray its leaves with water. Once a month, it is worth supporting the tree with fertilizer intended for exotic species.

There is still a question to consider: is an avocado a plant that can be placed on the terrace or in the garden and admire its properties from there? It turns out that yes. Avocados will do well in such places, but only in summer. The plant feels best at temperatures of 21-25 degrees Celsius, but does not tolerate temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. When the temperature outside drops, make sure the avocado tree returns inside the apartment. Otherwise, the plant may die.
