The viewers of “Na Wspólnej” know the character of Michał Brzozowski very well. Robert Kudelski has been playing his role for over 20 years. However, apart from acting, his problems with maintaining weight were also widely reported, which was often met with unpleasant comments.
Now, in an interview with wp.pl, he made an honest confession about his current struggle with excess weight. “I was wondering whether people would perceive me only through the prism of the ‘Let’s talk honestly about obesity’ campaign. After all, talking about obesity – naturally, openly and seriously – is not always perceived positively,” he began. Nevertheless, we live in times of a ubiquitous canon of beauty and being fit, which makes it not so easy to discuss these issues. However, the actor decided that apart from being good to people in a similar situation, he should also do something for himself. “I thought that maybe speaking openly about my situation would give me some strength,” he said.
Omnipresent mobbing. The actor was afraid of losing the role
Kudelski has already revealed his problems with this civilization disease. “People called me fat and a piglet. They wrote that people like me, i.e. those suffering from obesity, unnecessarily push themselves to watch television,” he confessed in an interview for “Wysokie Obcasy” two months ago. He also said that he had struggled with maintaining a constant body weight since childhood, which had an impact on his adult life. Once, the director asked him to lose 20 kg for a film set. The fear was intensified by the thought that he might have to say goodbye to “Na Wspólnej”.
The actor also admitted that he had trouble accepting his body and did not remember when he last looked in the mirror. “I used to not look in the mirror because people around me mocked my appearance. Today, I avoid them because it’s hard for me to accept the extra kilos. As if I lacked courage. After starting the campaign, many personal trainers approached me. They promised to sculpt me into a god. . But that’s not the point, I’m not lazy, I don’t stay on the couch all day long. However, losing two kilograms is still a great challenge for me. No psychologist, coach or personal trainer will help here.
Self-acceptance and support. “You realize that the world is diverse”
Today, he is no longer afraid of the consequences resulting from his appearance and is happy to take part in the “Let’s talk honestly about obesity” campaign. “Directors and producers realize that the world is diverse, that there is no need to pretend that there is only one human size in the world. But we still have a lot to learn. Learn to show different bodies, of different ages and sizes in films and series, and “not to equate a body ‘out of canon’ with something ugly and socially rejected.” – he notes in an interview with wp.pl.
This is a great act of courage on the actor’s part, because as he himself admitted, a few years ago he would not have dared to have such an honest conversation. He was also helped by the support of people who experienced similar exclusion. “It turned out that many people identified with me. Thanks to my confessions, I gave someone strength,” he concluded.
