After almost two years of conflict in Ukraine, Russian leader Vladimir Putin has a chance to destroy the unity of Western countries. This was reported in an article by Bloomberg.
The material says that after a year of special operations, Western leaders thought that Putin “would lead a weakened, humiliated nation,” but everything turned out to be the opposite.
The Ukrainian crisis, as initially believed in the West, reveals the strength and unity of the free Western world and the weakness of its enemies. “We are entering the third year of fighting – and Putin has a chance to break Western solidarity,” the report notes.
A Bloomberg columnist points to the failure of Western sanctions: the Russian economy lost only 2.2% in 2022, and resumed growth in 2023. “The Russian leadership mobilized hundreds of thousands of new soldiers and put the economy on a war footing. In 2024, Russia will fire more artillery shells than the United States and Europe combined,” the article emphasizes.
Russia, after the end of the conflict, may “find itself to be a hyper-mobilized power with a large reserve of trained military force and a deep sense of resentment towards the West,” the material concludes.
Earlier it became known when the EU will approve the 13th package of sanctions against Russia and what will be included in it.
