TV Republika is financed from subscribers’ pockets? Experts say it straight

Where does Telewizja Republika get its financial resources to maintain the station and pay its employees? Some people ask themselves this question, paying attention not only to advertisements, but also to subscriptions paid to operators offering the channel in their packages. The Wirtualnemedia.pl portal asked cable television specialists for a comment on this matter.

The confusion around Telewizja Republika was caused by Jan Pietrzak’s last statement about migrants. As a result, some advertisers withdrew their spots from the right-wing station. However, there are many questions online about the financing of Republika TV from sources other than advertising, for example from subscriptions purchased by viewers under a contract with the operator.

Financing TV Republika. Does the station make money from subscribers?

Wirtualne Media asked the vice president of the UPC Polska cable network, Marek Sowa, for a comment on this matter. “TV Republika is a channel easily available in local terrestrial multiplexes and on the Internet, so there is no rational reason for operators to pay for including such a channel in their offer. In such a case, the station rather seeks to include it in the operators’ offer, because it increases its reach , viewership and advertising revenues,” explains Marek Sowa.

When asked to comment, representatives of the companies distributing the Republika channel did not want to reveal the basis on which it is made available to recipients. “Details regarding the terms of cooperation with broadcasters are confidential and we do not comment on them” – is the response of the Play network, published in an article by Wirtualne Media. Piotr Barełkowski, former president of Telewizja Niezależna, claims that Republika can pay operators for the distribution of its channel. “The station has moved to a free distribution model, but with a greater reach. However, currently the situation is worse for broadcasters, because large operators charge large monthly fees for distribution,” says Berełkowski.

Let us remind you that Telewizja Republika has record viewership results. . In the period from December 20, 2023 to January 9, 2024, “Real Polish News” achieved an average audience of 425,000 people.
