Jerzy Zelnik reacts to the March of Free Poles. “We need patience”

Supporters of Law and Justice from all over Poland came to Warsaw today to take part in the March of Free Poles. Actor Jerzy Zelnik, who in the future did not hide his sympathy for Jaros³aw Kaczyñski’s party, commented on the event. In the interview, he said what he thought about the current atmosphere in Polish politics and let us know whether he would appear at the march.

The PiS party has been announcing the organization of an anti-government demonstration for several weeks. All interested people are to meet on Thursday afternoon in front of the Sejm, from where the march will go towards the Presidential Palace. Initially, the protest was supposed to concern only changes in the public media, but due to the events of recent days, it will also concern the scandal related to former ministers Mariusz Kamiński and Maciej Wąsik.

Jerzy Zelnik supported Jarosław Kaczyński’s party. Now he is more moderate

The portal’s editors decided to ask Jerzy Zelnik about participation. In the past, the actor did not hide his political sympathies and took part in events organized by PiS. Moreover, he even starred in the film “Smolensk”, which did not receive good reviews, but was liked by supporters of the United Right government.

At the very beginning of the conversation, Zelnik emphasized that he did not intend to take part in the March of Free Poles, adding that he had not participated in any political demonstrations for several years. – I manifest my civic expression differently. But I do not condemn the demonstrations, after all, we live in a democracy. Everyone has the right to express their views, provided they do it in a legal and cultural manner, he said.

Moreover, the motto of the protest is “defense of fundamental values”. The actor pointed out that this is a very general formulation, and the organizers of the demonstration mainly mean “specific actions of the ruling team”, i.e. changes in the functioning of public media and holding former ministers Wąsik and Kamiński accountable.

I assumed the position of an observer, perhaps too comfortable for some people. I think we should cool down our emotions and give the government one hundred days, which would be the first turning point. Let’s stay calm and wait until some matters are settled. I understand that legal ambivalences may cause concern and there is a need to express them in protest. Until the interpretation of the law allows for a clear diagnosis, the struggle will continue. I say this as a lover of Poland, said Zelnik.

The actor emphasizes that “what has been divided must be glued together”

Later in the conversation, he stated that currently “the most appropriate solution is to restrain emotions and rely on reason.” He also adds that we should not criticize everything that the United Right government has done over the last eight years.

– Many things were going in the right direction: communication, legal and economic solutions, as well as becoming independent from Russia in terms of energy sources. Let us not forget about the Institute of National Remembrance, which has made enormous contributions to restoring our knowledge of history. I watched with pleasure how Poland was developing and gaining strength, also militarily, he admitted.

At the very end of the interview, he emphasized that the most important thing for Poles now should be rebuilding the community. It shows that the situation when we are divided is very beneficial for those who do not wish our country well. He also added that he will certainly react strongly to actions he does not agree with.

We are in a difficult moment of confusion and struggle. We need patience. We should handle some matters together. But if decisions are made that are not in line with my conscience, I will also rebel, he concluded.
