Radio Wawa was established in 1992 and from the very beginning it played only Polish music. Initially it was rock, but over time the repertoire was also expanded to include pop. In recent years, disco polo was even introduced to the station’s playlist, but this disappeared for a while in 2021 when the station changed its name to Radio SuperNova.
There was Wawa, there was SuperNova. Now Eska2 is on the air, featuring only Polish music
The owner of Grupa Radiowa Time, the owner of the radio station, justified this decision with the desire to refresh the brand. He also believed that the name “Wawa”, although present on the market for many years, is associated with Warsaw by listeners, and stations of this network can also be received in many other cities.
However, this change was unsuccessful, as the listening results only worsened. Over time, they tried to save the situation by returning to playing disco polo music, but it didn’t help. However, that is now a thing of the past. On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, the station changed its name again. This time on Eska2, accompanied by the motto “the best Polish hits”.
The program and music directors of “big” Eska, i.e. Olgierd Wojtkowiak and PaweÅ‚ Karpowicz, are responsible for the antenna. They assure that Eska2 will be aimed at older audiences, and the station’s playlist will not be dominated by new releases, but by music from 1990-2020. However, as the music director of the new radio station assures, listeners will also hear other sounds, but he also announces the lack of disco polo:
All this will be supplemented with the most interesting news from recent months and legendary recordings from the 1980s. We will provide a perfect musical flow, undisturbed by strong rap and disco polo – said PaweÅ‚ Karpowicz.
At Eska2, the hosts will accompany the listeners from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and during the day, in addition to music, national and local news bulletins will also be broadcast. In addition, cultural information is to be provided every day at different times of the day under the name “What, where, when?”. Eska2 transmits via 19 terrestrial transmitters. You can also listen to the station on the Internet.
