Turn the radiator on and off or heat constantly? You can throw a lot of money into the air

If we want to save on heating bills, we often turn off the radiators when we are not at home. However, does it make sense? Few people know that this method does more harm than good.

Each of us has them at home, but does everyone really know how to use them properly? Do you turn off the radiators at night or when you leave the house? What temperature do you set them to? We explain how to avoid paying exorbitant prices for heat.

Should you turn off the radiator before leaving the house? Find out why you are making a mistake

It would seem that turning off the radiator is a great way to reduce your bills. Nothing could be further from the truth. Such action has quite the opposite effect. Why? Well, when we turn off the radiator, it will cool down over time, and when we turn it on again, it will use much more energy to heat up to the set temperature. So if you turn off the heater at night or when you leave the house, it’s best not to do it. Restarting the radiator will use more energy than if it was running all the time.

How to heat economically with a radiator? Here are some proven tips to reduce your heating bills

A much better idea is to set the heater to a medium temperature. It is best to leave it on number 3, and it will maintain the temperature in the apartment from 18 to 20 degrees Celsius (number four from 22 to 24 degrees, and number five around 28 degrees). Leaving the radiator at an average temperature will also save on bills, as the radiator will not have to constantly heat up, but will only maintain a constant temperature. It is also worth remembering not to cover the radiators, e.g. with furniture, because they disturb the air flow. If you want to have lower bills, also take a look at your windows. If you feel gusts of wind, you better act quickly because they significantly affect the operation of the radiators.
