For several days now, we have seen TV Republika suffering the consequences of not reacting to the scandalous words of Jan Pietrzak spoken on television. “Here I have a cruel joke with these immigrants. They count on Poles being prepared because we have barracks. We have barracks for immigrants in Auschwitz, Majdanek, Treblinka, Sztutowo. We have a lot of barracks built here by the Germans,” said the satirist . Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar ordered the prosecutor’s office to handle the case, which has already initiated an investigation.
More companies do not want advertising on TV Republika
The recipients of the material were outraged not only by the statement of the TV guest – live programs have their own rules – but also by the lack of reaction from journalists and the station’s management. The shameful words should be corrected – if not by their author, then by representatives of TV Republika. Viewers should hear an apology.
Due to the material, entries about companies that advertise on TV Republika began to appear on the Internet. Big brands reacted immediately. It broke off marketing cooperation with IKEA television, Pyszne.pl, Otodom, Provident Polska and Tarczyński. Pietrzak’s statement on Tomasz Sakiewicz’s television was also commented on by the famous writer and reporter, Mariusz Szczygie³.
Mariusz Szczygieł reacted to Jan Pietrzak’s words: He hurt us as a community
The author emphasized that he noticed that Pietrzak’s statement found many supporters, but also defenders. There have been suggestions that the case is being blown up unnecessarily. “I am of the opposite opinion,” Szczygieł declares. The writer emphasizes that the matter would not exist if Jan Pietrzak was not a public person and made a “joke” in the privacy of, for example, his kitchen. “When these words come from the authority of the Polish right, who invites the PiS management of TVP to a festival in Opole, and the PiS director of the Center for Contemporary Art organizes a concert for him at the Ujazdowski Castle, they gain dangerous power,” Szczygieł points out.
The author also refers to one of his readers who stated that Pietrzak did not hurt anyone with his words. “Well, dear lady, he has harmed us as a community. Because he instills in us unacceptable comparisons. This is a dangerous force.” Szczygieł gave an example of an avalanche of unacceptable words that were uttered by authorities in a short period of time in public space. The author gave the example of Marek Król, who proposed marking immigrants with tattoos, and Marek Jakubiak, the owner of the Ciechan brewery, compared immigrants to waste.
“We know that violence begins with words. It is enough to read the reporting books about Rwanda by Jean Hatzfeld and Wojciech Tochman. There we have a perfectly presented model: from words to genocide” – writes Szczygieł on his Instagram and admits that he himself received the messages, in which the authors wanted to send him “to the gas chambers”.
